Instagram is a social network that had a rapid growth since its launch in October 2010, and since then has contributed to major changes in the digital world, focusing on communicating through images and photographs instead of long texts. And it has also boosted video marketing through reels in recent years, challenging brands to connect with their audience in a few seconds and grab their attention before they move on to the next reel.

This social network does not stop surprising us with its versatility to include different formats and trends, and that these have a high level of acceptance by their users.

Instagram has become a very important social media platform for influencers and content creators, so it seeks to innovate constantly to prevent these migrate to other platforms that offer facilities or other opportunities to earn income. That is why Instagram has launches in 2022 a modality based on subscription plans for some of the most important creators of content on the platform.

But … all Instagram user will have to pay for the use of the platforms? Relax! It’s not like that. The content creators’ profile will include a button where their followers can subscribe to view exclusive content, that is, that influencers can publish 2 types of content their profile:

  1. General content, this can be seen by any Instagram user who visits your profile without paying a penny, and the current formats (photos, video, reels, IGTV, stories and live).
  2. Exclusive content, which can only be viewed by those followers who want to pay the monthly subscription of their favorite artists and content creators. This type of content will be distinguished by having a crown icon and the word “exclusive” at the top of the post.

Taking a similar modality to OnlyFans, in which artist and influencers can receive income directly from their followers by sharing exclusive content on the social network.

Currently, this new subscription mode is in a trial phase only in the United States and with some content creators selected by the platform’s executives. However, the scope is expected to be extended to other territories in 2023.

Now, let’s see how the subscription mode will work on Instagram. One of the biggest questions is about the monthly subscription cost, and is that Instagram has decide that each content creator will be able to decide the price to charge monthly, and the only limitation on the part of the platforms is that the cost of this monthly subscription cannot exceed $100.

Another important point to keep in mind is the type of content that can be accessed with the subscription, for now Instagram allows to publish as exclusive post content photos or videos and reels. In addition, it has included the option to create group chats with their subscribed followers, with a maximum of 30 participants in each chat.
